In the last few years we have witnessed the introduction of many electronic devices for skin care in the vast aesthetic sector. These devices usually integrate different technologies dedicated to skin care and rejuvenation.
Iontophoresis is one of the technologies present on some of these devices. An effective system that allows the nutrients to penetrate into the dermis avoiding the use of the so-called puncture, which, as we know, have some undesirable side effects.
The principle of iontophoresis consists in creating weak currents capable of transporting the molecules of active ingredients in the depths of the dermis. The dermis is the vascularized layer of the skin, capable of nourishing and stimulating, with appropriate substances, the growth of new collagen and elastin, the latter proteins, necessary to give shape and structure to the skin. But what is the rationale for the iontophoresis process started with the help of a device? Assuming that the head of the device is positively polarized and the hyaluronic acid molecules, in their composition, have been positively ionized (ION +), for the well-known physical principle, the charges + with + repel each other, + with - attract each other. By exploiting this principle it is possible to establish a flow of weak currents that convey the active ingredients in the direction and in the desired points (NUTRI). In the iontophoresis process, used to rejuvenate the skin, the hyaluronic acid molecules are arranged in the intracellular spaces of the dermis, drawing water that is deposited and filled, folds and furrows of the tissue that with this treatment is stretched and revitalized.
The reverse process is used to carry out skin cleansing. This function is obtained by polarizing the treatment head of the device negatively (ION-). The positively ionized cream molecules (ION +) will be attracted to the surface by the action of the device which in this phase has the function of attracting rather than repelling. Hence an effective method for cleaning the skin, called CLEAN. The molecules of the biocosmetic in this phase are able to aggregate and expel all skin defects on the surface, such as: sebum, comedones, dead cells, cosmetic residues and more.
